Is this one awesome shelter pup? There are 3,999,999 more like him.

Four million heroic dogs end up in shelters and breed rescue organizations every year in the United States.

PEDIGREE, with your help, wants to feed these fine dogs while they are waiting to go to their forever homes!

Write a Post, Help a Dog!

For each blog (that’s YOU) that publishes a post about the PEDIGREE Adoption Drive (See below for content for your post.) from today through Sunday, September 19, PEDIGREE will donate a 20 pound bag of their new Healthy Longevity Food for Dogs to shelters nationwide. Why? Because most shelter dogs are more than 3 years old. How cool is that?

And, to crank things up a notch–the 10 bloggers sponsored by PEDIGREE Adoption Drive to attend BlogPaws West (That’s me and 9 others.) are hosting a Blog Hop that runs from Thursday, September 16 through Sunday, September 19 to raise awareness and galvanize bloggers to “Write a post, help a dog!”

We want PEDIGREE to donate hundreds of 20 pound bags of food. Think about it. For every 100 blogs that publishes a post about the PEDIGREE Adoption Drive, PEDIGREE will donate 2,000 pounds (That’s a TON!) of dog food to shelter dogs!

Do the math! We can Be the Change and feed thousands of dogs thanks to PEDIGREE!

There are three simple guidelines:

  1. One post per blog.
  2. Be sure your post counts, be sure your post results in PEDIGREE donating 20 pounds of food: 1) Use #dogsrule when you announce your post on Twitter; 2) use #dogsrule in your post; 3) use #dogsrule as a ‘tag’ for your post; 4) link to the PEDIGREE Adoption Drive Facebook fan page: http://www.facebook.com/Pedigree?ref=ts
  3. Join the BLOG HOP: See the list of blogs at the end of this post? See were it says “You’re next”? Click on “Your next” and enter the URL of your blog post NOT the URL of your Blog.

Wait, I need CONTENT about the PEDIGREE Adoption Drive!

1. Tell your readers:

  • This year the PEDIGREE Adoption Drive is raising awareness about awesome homeless dogs by donating a bowl of food to a shelter dog for every person who becomes a “Fan” or “Likes” the PEDIGREE Adoption Drive on Facebook.
  • All they have to do is go to the PEDIGREE Adoption Drive Fan Page on Facebook to become a fan and help a dog. Here’s the link: http://www.facebook.com/Pedigree?ref=ts

2. You can post this nifty yellow and blue badge and link it to the the PEDIGREE Adoption Drive Fan Page (http://www.facebook.com/Pedigree?ref=ts):

3. You can insert this moving PEDIGREE® Adoption Drive “Million Fans” Video into your post (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtLDEoOQONY)

It’s that simple. Together we can help thousands of dogs!

  10. Kim Clune says:

    Hi Deborah,

I was so excited to participate in this campaign knowing that it costs shelters so much to feed rescue animals. Sadly, once I posted and shared the link, a friend alerted me to this:
    http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/pedigree.html

I don’t feed my dogs processed food because of all the recalls, but thought I was doing something good for shelters, taking some of the financial burden from them and knowing they feed primarily kibble. I can’t in good conscience be part of this campaign while a question exists about food quality, especially for dogs with enough troubles already. I don’t want them to get sick and have shelters incur more expenses in vet bills. If there is any way you can remove my blog (#50) from the link list, I would appreciate it. I’ll be taking my post down immediately. Thank you.

    • Hi Kim This is indeed discouraging news. I completely understand your position. Unfortunately I can’t, well actually, I don’t now how, to take your link down. But, I will email you about who can, I think.

Like you I don’t feed my dogs processed food either. I feed her fresh whole food. But, as you say that is not an expense shelters can afford.

I appreciate your concern and integrity.

      • Mark Rasmussen says:

        Kim –

It was great meeting you at BlogPaws West. Ever since we first followed you on Twitter we have been fans of yours, because of your commitment to animals. We’re honored that you wanted to spread the word about the Pedigree Adoption Drive.

Our top priority is the quality and safety of our products and we value the confidence and trust pet owners put in us.

Our pet food undergoes industry-leading quality assurance testing beginning with raw ingredients and ending with the testing of finished products. Not because we have to, but because we believe every dog deserves the highest quality food. Whether it’s a shelter dog, or a show dog.

We take every complaint about our products very seriously, especially those that relate to the health of pets. When we learn of an issue, we work with consumers to obtain information, request that samples of any product in question be submitted for testing at an independent facility, and perform a thorough review.

Hopefully this note eases some of your concerns, but I would love to talk more if you’re interested. Again, we cannot adequately articulate our appreciation for your support of shelter animals.

        Dogs rule!

Mark on behalf of the Pedigree Adoption Drive

P.S. – I still owe you one after you snapped that team photo for us at BlogPaws!

        • Dear Mark

I appreciate your replying to Kim as well as the conversation we had yesterday. I’m sorry it took so long for your comment to be posted, but the server that hosts my blog was down last evening.

Speaking for myself, your comment and our conversation in particular eases most of my concerns enough to continue to rally behind this blog campaign to feed shelter dogs.

Shelter’s are so stretched for resources that helping them to feed dogs is certainly a worthy cause.

        • Kim Clune says:

Thank you for taking the time to reply, Mark. I enjoyed meeting you and absolutely want to ease the burden for shelters. I have nothing but respect for the PEDIGREE adoption initiative and find this campaign inspiring. Felissa Hadas has since provided me with the ingredients for your new formula which certainly seems improved. My preference would be to see less filler (corn) but that’s the extent of my offerings.

Best to you and much success with the campaign,
          Kim
