What a lovely surprise. Last night when Sadie and I returned from her Treibball class I found an email from Pamela Douglas Webster, who writes the fabulous blog, Something Wagging This Way Comes: An Amateur’s Musings on Dogs and Their People, telling me that she had awarded me a Stylish Blogger Award!

Thank you, Pamela! I’m truly honored to receive this recognition from you and especially pleased to be among the blogging stars in your constellation of winners. Many of them are among my all-time favorite blogs. Cruise on over to Something Wagging to see Pamela’s stellar choices.

Let me say a few words about Pamela and Something Wagging before doing my part as a Stylish Blogger Award recipient.

Something Wagging celebrates it’s one year anniversary next month! What a year it’s been. Pamela calls herself an amateur. She’s not. She’s cultivated a pitch perfect blogging voice and her content is top-notch as well. One of my favorite recent posts, “What Does Your Dog Call You?”, addresses who we are in relationship with our dogs. Pamela also recently initiated Dog Blog Tech, a place for “non-techie” bloggers to share suggestions and ask for help.

Thank you, Pamela!

Okay. Here we go with the fulfilling the responsibilities that accompany this award:

  • Thank the blogger who gave the award. (Done!)
  • Share 7 things about yourself/your pets. (Coming up.)
  • Pass the award onto 15 other bloggers. (This will be fun! See the list below.)

7 Things:

1. Sadie LOVES the splashing into big bodies in water to chase after her ball. I DO NOT enjoy immersing myself in large bodies of water, or small ones, for that matter.

2. I love cuddling with dogs. Sadie, like many dogs, does not. This predicament leaves me in a state of perpetual unrequited cuddle lust.

3. Sadie and I greatly enjoy hiking in the foothills west of Boulder with her BFF, Romeo.

4. The only time Sadie allows me to sleep with her is if I lay down on the couch when she’s curled up in the far corner. If I don’t touch her, she stays. If I inadvertently bump her with my leg or foot, she’s gone. This is one dog who has a firm grasp on her personal space.

5. Sadie reminded me not to solidify in my mind the concept of her being a “fearful dog.” Last night at Treibball I protested to the instructor, “Sadie won’t do that, she’ll feel to boxed in.” WRONG! She did it! Happily. The “it” being ‘backing up’ (something she’s always been reluctant to do) between the wall of the barn and a horse-jump poll laying on the ground parallel to wall and about about 18 inches from it. Awesome.

6. Sadie told me loud and clear last night during Treibball that I need to bring higher value food rewards next week. Beef jerky has become a yawner.

7. Sadie just stretched off the couch (She does a downward dog with her hind end on the edge of the couch.) and is giving me the stop-wasting-time-on-the-computer look. Okay. We’re off to fetch Mr. Romeo for a romp in the woods.

15 of my favorite blogs–in no particular order and with one word I freely-associated with each blog.

1. Go-Pet Friendly–informative

2. 3 Woofs and a Woo–clever

3. Dog Jaunt–thorough

4. Fearfuldog’s Blog–insightful

5. Hound Girl–sweet

6. The Dogsmith–instructive

7. Dog Tipper–versatile

8. Pet Health Care Gazette–enlightening

10. This One Wild Life–activist

11. Paws to Ruffflect–funny

12. Rewarding Behaviors Dog Training–smart

13. Fido and Wino–humanitarian

14. Cleo’s Day aka Grouchy Puppy–potpourri

15. Dancing Dog Blog–cutting-edge

Enjoy!!!

23 Responses to “Paying It Back and Forward: Stylish Blogger Award”

  1. Cuddle lust? Come to NY and visit – Cuba is more addicted to cuddling than any pup I know!

  2. Thank you so much for this honour- this is so kind of you! Such a fantastic group to enjoy company with!

“… the stop-wasting-time-on-the-computer look” My dogs do that to me too! Especially Kayloo! If she feels that I am working too late she comes into my office and BUGS me. She’s fine all day… but quittin’ time is quittin’ time apparently. 🙂

    Thanks again!

  3. Pup Fan says:

    Congrats on your award! 🙂

  4. Thank you so much, Deborah! I’m honored to be included in this list. As for your cuddle lust – my Buster is a good cuddler. Much better than Ty, who will cuddle reluctantly, but looks like he’s being punished the whole time – which really takes the fun out of it for me. I have some serious Treibball lust! It sounds like a blast and Sadie seems to be doing so well – even surprising you! 🙂

    • Well, at least you have one cuddle bunny. Ty probably does feel punished by being cuddled even though that’s not your intention at all! Quite the contrary, I’m sure. I just had a go-around with a friend of my who totally ignored me when I told him to ignore Sadie. What did he do? He leaned towards her and petted her. She stood absolutely still, tail down, not quite tucked, weight backwards…OY! I’m sure she felt punished even though my friend thought he was being very nice to her. I’m glad for you that Buster loves to cuddle 🙂

  5. Hilary says:

    Congratulations! You deserve this award!

I loved your 7 things–my Luna is #2 and #7 to a T! No cuddling for her (she’s never licked my face and getting even near me in a relaxed state is difficult). And yes, if I barely touch her if she’s sleeping or relaxing, off she goes! Very interesting!

Also loved and agreed with your blogger list! They are all fantastic to read!

And thanks for mentioning Sadie’s progress in Treibball!

    • Thanks Hilary. I was stunned when Sadie did the ‘back up’ at Treibball. When she was much younger and taking group classes with Gigi (now we just do privates) we would practice backing up. Well, everyone else was practicing backing up. Sadie always just sat down. I think it was a fear thing. Gigi agreed although she said Sandra told her that Std Poodle’s confirmation makes backing up harder for them. I don’t know. But, apparently Sandra has noticed her standards don’t back up so well either. Interesting.

  6. Thank you very much, Deborah. I’m very honored to be a part of such a dedicated group of bloggers!

I hear you about the “You’ve spent enough time on the computer” look. My cats do that too. When that doesn’t work, the next step is nudging my arm with their noses or climbing into the middle of the laptop. Very difficult to type with a cat lying across the keyboard…LOL

  7. Congratulations on your award, Ms Flick!

I’m glad there are other dogs out there that don’t enjoy cuddling and it’s not just my (disputed) body odor that’s keeping Rufus away 🙂

  8. Pamela says:

Thank you, Deborah. Your thank you was as nice as receiving the award in the first place. I can’t believe you realized my anniversary is coming up. I can’t even remember my wedding anniversary (much to the chagrin of my husband).

BTW, #5 on your list was awesome. It’s great that Sadie is finding ways to surprise you (in a good way).

    • You are welcome! You’re not alone. I don’t remember my wedding anniversary either and birthdays? I’m horrible. But blogs? That’s different. Just like with names. I hardly ever remember people’s names but I can recall the name of every dog I’ve ever met. Almost.

  9. Kahuna's K9s says:

Woot woot! Thanks for the shout out!! But you set the bar kind of high by describing us as “funny”. People are going to be stopping in expecting Billy Crystal. And we are neither that caliber of hilarity nor are we a man. 😉

  10. Lavi says:

Congrats for the award! Nice to know new things about you and Sadie.

  11. Mary Haight says:

Hey, Deborah! *Thank you* so much for including me in your Stylish Awards list! I hope you took my dramatic interpretation of awards acceptance in my blog response to your comment as good fun – the Academy Awards were fresh in my mind at the time:)

I think if we got all our animals together they might plot on how to make working on the computer a little more difficult for us – Lorie’s cat could teach that “cover the keyboard” trick and we’d all be in trouble!

Sadie’s doing the unexpected – who knows, a good cuddle may be in your future:)

  12. Karen says:

I just discovered your blog and love it. What a great resource. Where do you take Treibball classes? I live locally and foster for a local rescue and love to work with fearful dogs. This sounds like a fun class for my herding dog and also for future fearful fosters.
